| Inner balance found through yoga reflects in the personality and communication skills as well, finds out Anisha Sharma. When I started with yoga asanas and meditation years ago as a college student (thanks to my hostel warden’s initiative) I liked the after-effects of yoga workout and appreciated the freshness. That was it. I continued. Years later, on attending a Sri Sri Yoga session at the Art of Living International Center at Bangalore with Dinesh Kashikar, I realized the larger role that yoga had played in my evolution from a nervous, bubbly college student, to an individual with a storehouse of calm strength. I could only now appreciate what yoga had done to me. It had also given me the gift of communication! Click here to read more........... |

| The quality of your life depends directly on the state of your mind. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if when life throws you curve balls, instead of getting bogged down with uncertainties and questions, you could bounce back fighting stronger than ever? Most of us do manage to do this, in varying degrees, almost every day, but sometimes, it seems like our minds are infested with those annoying “can’ts” and “won’ts” and “maybe not”s . So how can we learn to spend more of our time thinking, “Yes, we can!”? Yoga has a unique approach to the state of doubt. Doubt is just a lack of prana – the vital life force or energy. We gain prana from four sources – food, sleep, breath and meditation. So yogis, who are very smart doubt-busters, include plenty of these sources in their lives. When you start to sense a slight negative attitude in your thoughts, just get up and do something to increase your prana! It takes some practice to catch oneself before a negative train of thought goes past a couple of stations, but this simple plan works! Click here to read more............. |

| Deccan Chronicle, 27th Dec. The world today is extremely fast-paced, and exciting opportunities are present at every corner; decisions have to be made at every stage and there are a hundred expectations to live up to. In such situations, it is doubly important to stay calm and focused, and meditation is the key to that. I turn to the Art of Living to help myself get through the turbulence of daily life. I first did the course 15 years ago. While I stumbled upon it partly by chance, I believe it was a natural process of learning that I came upon. The course was a profound, life expanding experience for me. It has taught me a lot, and I try to inculcate all of this in my life. Meditation is among the best things I have been exposed to. What I like the most about meditation is that it allows me to spend time with myself and understand what I truly want. It ensures mental, physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. What is the point of having lots of money if you don’t have peace of mind? You won’t be able to enjoy the joys that come along with that money. The more your mind is at peace, the more you enjoy things around you and ironically that’s when you need things the least. Click here to read more............. |

| The times of India, VADODARA. Sursagar lake, named after Sureshwar Desai who played a key role in establishing the Gaekwadi rule in the region, today raises a stink and is hardly a shadow of its glorious past. But all that may change with the Art of Living Foundation taking up the cause of the water body through its YES!+ volunteers. The project 'Reviving Sursagar' has been taken up by the organisation that has also involved like-minded NGOs in the project. The project is being coordinated by a volunteer and full-time teacher of the foundation Ashish Pandya who belongs to the city and studied at the Faculty of Technology and Engineering here before moving to Los Angeles and becoming the director of a multi-national skincare company. | The Times of India, MUMBAI: For children, the very idea of gathering on an open ground at night could be something that sounds like fun. Apart from a break from monotonous daily routine, it means pretending that, like grown-ups, they too have meetings to attend. But this is one meeting that is not the run-of-the-mill kind. On Saturday, hundreds of kids will gather at the Somaiya grounds in Sion to interact with Art of Living (AOL) guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar from 7 pm-9 pm as part of Times of India's Mumbai for Kids initiative. The two-hour free session will feature a talk by the guru, bhajans and then a short period of meditation, after which kids can ask questions. Click here to read more......... |

| Peace of mind is crucial to give expression to one’s capacities, abilities and talent. A person who is calm and balanced can achieve things far beyond what one may conventionally expect to do. Peace of mind is also crucial in maintaining healthy relationships and thereby creating a conducive and productive ambience for life. A healthy society depends on a healthy individual. And a healthy individual is healthy when he or she is at peace. But how do we attain this quality? How do we ensure that we are at peace while having to perform the worldly duties? What do we need to do to be at calm with ourselves? “There are two ways of looking at life. One is, “I’ll be happy after achieving so-and—so—a certain objective.” The second is, “I am happy come what may!” Which one do you want to live? Events come and go, they perish like flowers. Establish this knowledge “I am blessed” firmly in life. It can help you overcome any obstacle. You will find that complaints, grumblings and insecurities disappear. Click here to read more......... |

| Mount Everester Tine Mena tells how the Sudarshan Kriya helped her when she was struggling to breathe! She has not only climbed the Mount Everest, but also conquered the summit of life. Coming from a remote village in Arunachal Pradesh, India and born into a poor family of farmers, Tine Mena had to scale many a peak of life before she actually climbed the famed Himalayan summit. For the record, this 25-year old from Eshali village near the Indo-China border scaled the peak on May 9, 2011, becoming the first lady from the North East India to do so. Everything, except her grit, was going against her. The raging wind had knocked off her tent when she reached 7200m, forcing her to take shelter in the tent of another expedition. She was fatigued. On the eve of her D-day, she had to survive on a half-a-packet of instant noodles. Her wireless phone was already off power, which meant there was no communication with the base camp for three days. Living with awareness – Yoga for life with greater joy and productivity
| Watch your ‘Thoughts’, they become words. Watch your ‘Words’, they become actions. Watch your ‘Actions’, they become habits. Watch your ‘Habits’, they become character. Watch your ‘Character’, for it becomes your Destiny. - Sri Sri Ravi Shankar These are valuable ‘watch’ words for leading a meaningful life. Yoga fine-tunes your mind to a state of relaxed awareness, to live joyfully in the present moment. You manage to do many activities with full attention, but sometimes there is no mental relaxation. And there are other moments when your awareness seems to have expanded, but the mind is not sharp. Is it then possible to be totally aware, relaxed and happy, as well as have sharpness of intelligence at the same time? Yes, Yoga can help us to achieve this balanced state of awareness that gives clarity and sharpness of mind, as well as calmness and joy. Take charge of your mind with awareness But why is awareness important? When you act without awareness – you are like a sleepwalker, who doesn’t know where he is walking. The Middle Path In Technology
| Speaking tree, Indiatimes As creators and users of technology, we have been greatly empowered. Yet this power often comes at the cost of becoming entirely dependent on this very technology. Our enthusiasm to explore and to know is often limited to internet searches. We do not go out and explore nature and so tend to lose the human touch. Nothing can replace the experience of touching snow or feeling the coolness of the flowing river. While it is much easier to know more about anything by connecting to the World Wide Web, the enthusiasm to discover and learn firsthand is receding and only the virtual experience remains. But this is not the real thing. We could discover ways in which technology can help to facilitate our spirit of inquiry. Is there a middle path in the use of technology and how do we find it? | By Dr. Prema Seshadri An ancient discipline dating back more than eight thousand years, Yoga must have something of phenomenal value to have not only survived all this time but seen an incredibly popular and upward swing in the 21st century. The benefits of Yoga are well documented and extensively so. In recent years I have begun to look at the practice of yoga from some slightly different perspectives and have found it only makes yoga so much more exciting. From stretch to stability Here are some different angles that would be worth exploring in the practice of yoga: Yoga provides the realization that we don’t know and affords an opportunity to explore what we don’t know! It sounds so simple yet it is so interestingly challenging! The human psyche is very comfortable with well-established labels. Even a little crinkling of the label can cause discomfort. So, inadvertently and unconsciously it seeks to indulge itself in action that will only reinforce what it is familiar and comfortable with and not allow itself to test unchartered waters. Therefore, if we knew how much we could stretch the angle of our body or twist the length of the spine or hold a position, that alone would give us enormous joy and help us ensconce ourselves in a state of complacency. Consequently, while we will, of an absolute certainty, grow in a huge way, the growth will not be in leaps and bounds that we would experience if we approached the practice of yoga from a space of an ignorance of our capabilities. There would then be an experience of “free-floating”, an effortlessness that opens up the infinite possibilities within. Read more.......... |

| SONAL NAGDA quit a well paying job that she had held for 26 years to concentrate on social work. Through a global educational and humanitarian organisation, she is teaching inmates at Kenyan prisons on how to lead a stress-free life. She spoke to KIUNDU WAWERU Life at Kamiti Maximum Prison moves slowly and mechanically. Inmates follow their chores like clockwork, but in no hurry. After all, most of them are serving life sentences while others are there for more than ten years. Yet others live in seclusion, in death row. One such man, Brian Kariuki, has served five years of his life sentence. In an interview with Presstv, Brian, who was a student at Nairobi Aviation College before his arrest, says he harboured deep-seated anger against the people who accused him of the crime he is in prison for and which he maintains he did not commit. Follow Your Breath And Fly High
| “Breath is the link between the body and mind. If the mind is a kite the breath is the thread. The longer the thread, the higher the kite can go.” – Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Like all other involuntary actions undertaken by the body, breathing is something most of us take for granted. When it takes place automatically anyway, why bother about it? The key to healthy and happy living lies in right breathing. Breathe out Stress, breathe in Joy Our breath determines our state of mind and the state of our body too. For every emotion or thought pattern, there is a distinct rhythm of breath. Self improvement
| The Gayatri Mantra glides through the three states of consciousness joyfully, playfully, effortlessly and lightly, as though it were a song. When we 'sing through' something, it means it is not a burden for us. "Gayanti traayate iti gayatri." The mantra affects all three states of consciousness — jagrut or waking, sushupt or deep sleep, swapna or dream. It also affects the three layers of existence — the adhyatmik, adidhaivik and adibhautik. Traya also refers to the taapatraya or ailments or taapa that adversely affect the body, mind and soul. The body is often ravaged by physical ailments, the mind by negativity and restlessness in the soul. Gayatri Shakti, the energy or field of vibration enables one to transcend and be unaffected by the taapatrayas. Click here to read more............ |

| The Hindu, 7th Dec. Six-day programme held for registered bad characters Going beyond traditional methods of reining in crime in a first-of-its-kind endeavour, the Outer Delhi Police organised a six-day “Art of Living” programme for registered bad characters of several police stations of the district. Though the number of participants in the programme, which was held at Pitampura Police Lines from December 1 to 6, declined gradually from 63 on the first day to 30 on the concluding day, those who stayed till the end felt it was a life changing experience. NOT COMPULSARY “Initially we brought four to five bad characters from each police station and persuaded them to experience it for a day. At the end of the session on the first day, I addressed them and told them there was no compulsion on their part to continue with the programme. The next day the number reduced to 49, but it stabilised at 30. When I interacted with the 30 on the last day, some of them felt that they would not have entered the world of crime had there been such guidance for them earlier and insisted on its continuation. So, we have decided to hold a fresher course every Sunday for these people,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) B.S. Jaiswal. Read more............... |

Yoga Wear: Secrets for choosing the right yoga clothes
| The main objective of choosing the right yoga wear is so you can just forget about it during yoga practice. At dawn, when the rest of the world is still and quiet, I reserve special yoga-time for a series of gentle Sri Sri yoga asanas, pranayamas (yoga breathing techniques) and meditation. It is a sacred two hours of peace before I start the day. Paying attention to simple details like which yoga clothes to wear helps to keep this time focused on what is most important – the yoga. A recent venture into Sarvangasana, (the upside down shoulder stand pose) was a funny picture of me wobbling all over, clutching at my t-shirt to keep it from engulfing my face. I decided to make a trip to the yoga clothing shop to find a better solution. Here is what I found out: Secret #1: Be yourself. Yoga practice is different from other kinds of workouts. It's not about the competition. It's not about opinions and beauty standards. Yoga is a process of getting to know oneself, however the journey may look like. You are invited to wear whatever makes you feel beautiful, gracious and honored. Have fun. Click here to Read rest of the secrets.......... |

| A healthy digestive system in Ayurveda is referred to as the mainstream of our well-being. The root cause of most of the diseases is inefficient digestion. The metabolic energy of digestion called agni helps in eliminating the body wastes and toxins. It breaks down the dense physical matter into subtle energy the body needs, generates internal warmth and produces a clear mind Let’s think of our digestive system as a juicer, body toxins as fruit waste, agni as juicer blades and energy as juice. If the juicer blades are weak, less juice is generated and there is more of fruit waste left. Similarly when this agni (juicer blade) is weak, there is not enough digestive power to metabolise food into energy(juice). The result? More toxins(fruit waste) are accumulated in the cells. Thus a stronger agni (better juicer blades) is required for a good digestive system. An easy way to support digestive agni is through Yoga. How does yoga help in having a better digestive system? Yoga for backache- Discover the strength of healing through Yoga

We all like to live in a house without dirt. But what about our body? Our body can be thought of as a house and the dirt as something called toxins which accumulate in every cell of our body due to everyday stress. We have been living with these toxins since years. | By Divya Sachdev It was the year 2005. I was sitting comfortably on a yoga mat on a Sunday morning. I was very peaceful and calm. I had felt the same way often in the past few years since I had started practicing yoga. The time I stretched through yoga postures simply flew. Later I sat with a book of Physics and started reading. Something was different. I realized I could grasp more and more. I had seen a major improvement in my grades lately. I knew yoga was working well for me as gradually in high school, I became one of the the top students of my class. I wasn't sure how, but I realized that the practice of yoga asanas was helping me cope with my studies. The journey to the peak As a child, I was always told that I had to study hard to enjoy life, but while studying I found I was hardly able to enjoy life. With my daily schedule for school and coaching classes, I would get very little time for leisure. Somehow books, assignments, exams, presentations would only add to my phobia of not getting good grades and then a good college and then a good job and most importantly not making my parents happy which meant a lot to me. These thoughts were endless. Click here to Read more.......... |

| By Marilyn Galan It is a few minutes past 5 a.m., the beginning of my daily yoga practice. My right leg is lunging forward, the right foot pointing to the front. My left leg is placed straight and solid behind me. I breathe in and raise my arms, stretching them slowly out toward both sides. I look over my right hand, all of its fingers stretching themselves in one line away from my right shoulder. This is Virabhadrasana, or the Warrior II yoga pose. I feel good. Bounding into the yoga pose A relationship is like a yoga posture. Getting into a relationship, everything is rosy bliss. The stars glitter in one another’s eyes. You feel like the glorious hero of an action movie who has just saved the world from a great enemy. Sunlight is like the beloved’s warm embrace, rain is liquid happiness. There is a story to Virabhadra’s yoga pose. As told in the Mahabharata, the great Hindu spiritual epic, Lord Shiva’s beloved, Shakti, happened to be the daughter of his enemy, Daksha. Shakti’s father openly refused the marriage. Shakti was so grieved of her father’s disapproval that she took her own life. The warrior Virabhadra was born out of a lock of Shiva’s hair he had dashed to the ground while avenging his wife’s death. Read more......... |

8 Tips to Improve Your Yoga Practice
| We have unique body structures and levels to which we can bend vary. The good news is that the purpose of including yoga in your daily schedule is – not to achieve the perfect bend, but – to bring the body, breath, and mind together. Gear up with these simple tips and get on the yoga mat with a yogi’s attitude. #1 Respect the limits of your own body. Can you bring your nose to touch your knee in Standing Forward Bend? Some people can bend more than others can. So you bend to your capacity. Love your body and respect the limits of your own body. You need not compare yourself with your neighbor or someone on TV. You don’t have to do exactly what the other person is doing. The thumb rule is to remain stable and comfortable in the yoga asanas. Neither push too hard and try to overdo things, nor be lazy. Do as much as you can. Comfortably and stably. Click here to read rest of the tips........ |
