108 Surya Namaskars attempt at Yogathon (Navi Mumbai)

Fitness enthusiasts from the city will perform 108 sets of Suryanamaskar (sun salutation) at Central Park, Kharghar, on Sunday morning, as part of a nation-wide drive for promoting good health and fitness.

The Kharghar branch of Art of Living Foundation has arranged this challenge from 7am to 8.30am.

Over 1,000 people are expected to participate in the marathon yoga event. Organizers expect people from across the city to turn up.

The yogathon will allow people to participate and will challenge participants to complete 108 sets of Surya Namaskar (a full body yoga workout).

The event is being held across the country at schools, colleges, parks, prisons, orphanages, stadiums to promote this traditional form of exercise.

Over 400 followers of Art of Living will be participating in the event to create awareness on good health.

"As many as 50 people are determined to complete the magical number of 108 sets of Surya Namaskar. They will get gold certificate," said Bindushri Jaiswal, a yoga teacher.

He said that a time limit of 40 minutes will be allowed for these participants to achieve the target while matching their steps with audio command.

"Other can perform as per their potential by executing as many as possible," he added.
