Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will dedicate the solar project at Muluk Gaon in Dibrugarh district for the people on December 14, a press release received here stated.

The solar project has been initiated by SSRDP, a trust of The Art of Living. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, a humanitarian, peace ambassador and the founder of The Art of Living is keen on development of the North East region of India, and has therefore guided many projects. ‘Light A Home’ is a dream project initiated by SSRDP nationwide. This is one of the biggest projects in Assam following which a total of 287 households will be benefited.

Though the project was designed to have a central solar power station from where distribution through cable was planned, but approval was not granted by the ASEB as during the rainy season the area is flooded and may thus cause danger to innocent lives.

Hence, two central battery-charging stations have been installed in two buildings. Wiring with a provision of two lights and one fan has already been done in each house along with one solar battery.

Along with the solar project, two skill development training centres are also planned, namely tailoring training and computer centre, which will provide opportunity for self employment. In order to provide clean drinking water, 100 water filters will be distributed among the needy people during the function. Further, SSRDP is planning to train local cultivators for undertaking organic farming, the release added.
