The Art of Living’s World Environment Day is an annual event that is held to raise awareness about global warming and how we can safeguard our environment. This day is celebrated on Guru Purnima, a revered festival in India. Keeping in line with this tradition, the second World Environment Day will be celebrated on July 31 2015.

As mankind has moved towards technological and materialistic progress, nature has borne the brunt of his activities. Forests have been flattened to make way for cities, and rivers have been polluted with filth and waste. While the damage inflicted on our fragile environment cannot be undone, there are ways of mending it.

Through the World Environment Day, The Art of Living seeks to engage communities and individuals in pro-environmental activities such as tree plantation drives, cleanliness drives, and restoration of mangroves amongst others. People will also be educated on the use of bio-fuels, organic farming, and importance of cleanliness.

Shri Ramakrishna Y.B., Chairman - Working Group on Bio Fuels at Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India will be the chairman at The Art of Living International Center’s tree plantation program.

Communities are encouraged to take up these activities at their local level to help sustain our environment.
