Sri Sri University Hosted Seminar for Odisha Farmers on Managing Produce

Sri Sri University today hosted a state-level seminar for over 70 farmers on ‘Post Harvest Management and Marketing of vegetables and fruits of Odisha’. The seminar was organized by students of the Agribusiness Management program under the guidance of faculty member Mr. Barada Panigrahy.

The objective of the seminar was to upgrade the knowledge base of farmers on how to maintain the quality (appearance, texture, flavor and nutritive value) of vegetables and fruits, post harvest handling practices for marginal and small farmers, reduce losses (both physical and in market value) between harvest and consumption and low cost storage infrastructure for perishable horticulture produce.

Mr. Panigrahy delivered the keynote address, offering insights into how post harvest produce of Odisha in the local mandis can be better stored and marketed.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Bani Singh, Deputy Director National Horticulture Board, Bhubaneshwar spoke about post harvest management and horticulture produce and policies provided by the board. He also spoke about the development of energy efficient cold chain infrastructure.
Dr. D.K. Dora, professor OUAT gave the insights into post harvest management of fruits in Odisha, adding that the state has wide scope for exports of the Amrapali mango.

Dr. Nihar Ranjan Sahoo, Associate Professor, College of Agriculture and Engineering Technology (OUAT); Dr. Gowrishankar Sahoo, Associate professor Department of Horticulture; Mr. K C Mishra, Managing Director, E-Kutir; Mr. Barath Chandra Sahoo, Head, Reliance Fresh Supply Chain head of Odisha and Dr. Natwar Rout, Managing Director RV Innovations Pvt.Ltd. also addressed the gathering.

Envisioned by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar,the Sri Sri University was established as a centre for world-class education in India. Sri Sri University today offers value-based education in specialized areas of study including management, yoga, governance, education, architecture, health and wellness, liberal arts and the performing arts.

The Agribusiness Management Program is one of the pivotal programs offered by the university. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar perceives that educated young people will take farm related enterprises only if agriculture becomes intellectually stimulating and economically rewarding by means of partnership with private players and entrepreneurs. Keeping this in view, the MBA Program in Agri-Business Management (ABM) becomes a timely initiative. The Agribusiness department is committed totheir slogan “Go Green Go Nation” which includes helping farmers improve their socio-economic status.
