Some people found a unique way to welcome the New Year this time around in Bhubaneswar. Amidst all the cacophony of the campaign for the BMC elections, few found praying in Silence a favourable method to bring about a change in the society.

The Art of Living wing of Bhubaneswar organized a four day long Art of Silence course at Sivananda Sanskrutika Kendra, Ashok Nagar, Bhubaneswar from 28th Dec. to 31st Dec. 2013.

Around 50 meditators from all over the country gathered to pray for a brighter New Year and pledged themselves to Volunteers for a better India. This unique experiment by the Art of Living has found many votaries and is expected to gather momentum in the coming days. After sitting in Silence and meditating for 4 days, the participants and the organizers alike have taken a vow to work for a better country.

The participants also pledged to bring a change in society through making people aware to vote for a corruption free country. As a part of the nationwide campaign the organisers have pledged to volunteer for better Bhubaneswar and a better Odisha at large.

This is a part of nationwide movement (Volunteer for Better India) started by Param Poojya Sri Sri Ravi Shankar ji to give 1 hour every day to the nation for nation building. The Art of Silence Course, held is based on 5S- Seva (Service), Sadhana (Breathing practices), Satsang (Group Singing), Silence and Smile. As Sri Sri says a responsible and crime free society is desirable and the main cause of crime is stress. So, unlearning and de-stressing processes are very important to lead a meaningful happy life.

International faculty, Mr. Debjyoti Mohanty conducted the 4 day workshop and inspired the participants to meditate and take responsibility for a better society by giving one hour in a day in welfare activities. Organisers of Bhubaneswar have reposed a lot of hope in this noble endeavor.
