MUMBAI: The Art of Living Foundation's subsidiary group, Volunteer for a Better India (VBI), in association with the Walkers' Club, Aarey, is initiating a long-term, multi-phase environmental campaign to conserve and revive this precious green lung of Mumbai. The campaign gets off the ground Sunday. Located off Goregaon, Aarey is a stretch of 3,160 acres of land comprising 32 dairy units, human settlements, hotels and companies. The joint initiative hopes to be able to preserve the biodiversity of Aarey, a small forest area, and make it a plastic-free zone. The volunteers will educate residents about health and hygiene and sensitize visitors to the natural environment. Today's inaugural clean-up drive is partnered by many volunteer organisations who are cleaning a 4.6 km stretch of road adjoining the New Zealand Hostel. The stretch has a large quantity of garbage, plastic waste and wrappers dumped by locals. Among the participants are the NSS wings of Thakur College, NM College, Arham Group and students of New Zealand Hostel. Source: TOI
