Muscat: The Ministry of Sports Affairs in partnership with the Oman Chapter of the Art of Living Foundation conducted its pilot Youth Leadership Training Programme (YLTP) for the first batch of around 30 Omani sports coaches, from all parts of the Sultanate.

Hassan Tafti, a dynamic presenter of human potential programmes to corporate and youth audiences around the world, facilitated the Oman YLTP. Hassan, known to empower participants to make life challenging decisions and actions in a practical and fun way, is trained to facilitate many of the programmes of the Art of Living Foundation.

The programme was in the mould of 'Train the Trainers', wherein the sport of yoga was taught to the coaches, who are now trained to cascade the skills and attendant benefits, to the youth in their individual communities, towns, schools and colleges from where the coaches have come from. The 'Sports of Yoga' trainers would help people in their communities become stress free and more alert and productive.

These trainers will now reach out to and impact positively the road safety and other productivity/entrepreneurial programmes in Oman.

Describing the YLTP, Hassan said, "The YLTP is a unique leadership programme based on yoga and commitment to serve society. I have observed that the youth have a passion for sports and a strong interest in enhancing their own fitness. All that is needed is to draw out a similar passion and commitment from them to serve their society and their nation."

One of the participants, Said Al Dhuli from Nizwa shares, "Yoga is not merely a sport or a game. It's a lifestyle that is designed to improve the quality of our life. The knowledge we gain from this course will be useless if we don't put it to practice."

Essa Ali Khamis Al Mamari from Sohar, said, "In this course, I felt that my body, mind, heart, breath all work together in harmony. I feel more relaxed, comfortable, and can concentrate better." The participants of the YLTP were awarded certificates acknowledging their successful completion of the programme in a ceremony graced by the presence of Sheikh Saif bin Hilal Al Hosni, chairman, Oman Athletes Association and other dignitaries.
