Sri Sri courses usher in reforms

Sanjeev Sharma (35) of Ekwari village in Ara district worked as an arms trainer for Ranvir Sena and the Maoists, Balbhadra Karmakar (30) of Tupkadih in Bokaro district, Jharkhand, committed dacoity, loot and extortion and Mohan Banerjee (54) of Patamda in East Singhbhum district, Jharkhand, was a builder who led a land mafia gang to run his business.

The lives of these three men have completely been transformed, courtesy different courses of The Art of Living.

Presenting the trio before reporters at Gandhi Maidan today, two days ahead of The Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s visit to Gaya, Swami Priyajeet, a member of the organisation, said the courses are run in Gaya, Nawada and Aurangabad districts.

At present, The Art of Living is running Youth Leadership Training Programme for the youths, Jan Jagriti, Nav Chetna Shivir in rural areas, prison mart for jail inmates, art excel for children between eight and 14 years and youth empowerment seminar for children between 14 and 18 years.

Sanjeev said in childhood, he played with guns, as Ekwari village was notorious for activities of Maoists and the Ranvir Sena. Total 52 people from the village, including Sanjeev, owing allegiance to Ranvir Sena and the Maoists, were taken to Hrishikesh for a week-long training.

Of them, Sanjeev and 13 others transformed into good human beings and are leading peaceful lives. Asked if the court convicts him in the criminal cases, Sanjeev said: “I am ready for it. If convicted, I will run the programmes of The Art of Living inside the jail.”
