Chinese can now feel good with Sudarshan Kriya


BANGALORE: Sudarshan Kriya, the famous yoga technique initiated by the Art of Living, has reached China's doorstep. Spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravishankar inaugurated the AoL ashram on the outskirts of Beijing on Sunday. 

"India and China share a long tradition of wisdom and spirituality," Sri Sri said at the inauguration. 

Hundreds of Chinese devotees gathered at the event which was followed by a satsang. Representatives of Chinese Peoples Association of Friendship of Foreign Countries ( CPAFFC), a government-backed organization, attended. 

Thanking the Communist Party of China for its support, Sri Sri said: "Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism and the Upanishads all point to the fact that peace is within us and we need to share it with everyone. China's contribution to the world has been Kung Fu and Tai Chi which ensured alertness and good health. India has contributed yoga and breathing techniques. The Art of Living's Beijing ashram will not only cater to Chinese, but will draw people from all over the world to experience their hospitality."

The opening of the first Art of Living ashram in Beijing, China yesterday was a huge success. 

The function was attended among others by representatives of Chinese Peoples Association of Friendship of Foreign Countries, a government backed body, which had invited Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. The function included a Health & Happiness workshop, led by Sri Sri.




Today afternoon witnessed the first of its kind Art of Living Health and Happiness yoga camp at the new Beijing Art of Living ashram, conducted by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. 

This is the first ever visit by an Indian spiritual leader to mainland China. Several Art of Living teachers from Bangalore have visited and trained over two dozen Chinese teachers in Shanghai and Beijing. The Art of Living courses are taught in 15 cities across the mainland since a decade. China now becomes the 9th country in the world to have an Art of Living ashram.

7th International Leadership Symposium on Ethics

The 7th International Leadership Symposium on Ethics in Business will again take place at the European Parliament, Brussels, from 18-19 November 2010. 

This year's Conference theme is "Leadership in the 21st Century – Time for a Paradigm Shift?!" 

It will provide a platform for leading minds to share their experiences on the value of an ethics based approach to deal with today's challenges.

Kanakapura to China

Forget the kung fu hustle, it's now time for China to learn some disciplines in yoga. Yes, the Art Of Living is going to China and founder Sri Sri Ravishankar will open its first ashram in the country this Sunday during his maiden visit.

The Beijing ashram, constructed on a 165–acre land, will have rooms and dormitories that can accommodate up to 150 people. It also houses a three-storey meditation centre.

China will be the fifth country in the world to have an ashram set up by the AOL International Centre (AOLIC). Germany, Canada, Russia, Poland and USA have ashrams, the biggest one being in Canada.

'Art of Living' makes official debut in China

Beijing: Yoga made an "official debut" in China on Sunday as Sri Sri Ravishankar, the renowned Indian spiritual guru, inaugurated his first 'Art of Living' centre with the sanction of the Chinese government in the capital. 

Yoga, the quintessential Indian spiritual and cultural form that is increasingly becoming popular here, took centre stage as the Art of Living branch was opened at a sprawling Chinese resort on the outskirts of the capital. 
 
The function was attended among others by representatives of Chinese Peoples Association of Friendship of Foreign Countries, a government backed body which invited the Indian spiritual guru.

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar will visit China to inaugurate the first Art of Living ashram in Beijing. This is the first ever visit by an Indian spiritual leader to mainland China. 

On the two-day tour, starting on Oct 24, Sri Sri will attend a public satsang at the Art of Living ashram which has been co-organized by the state-run Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC). On October 25, Sri Sri will be received by Mr. Chen Hao Su, President of CPAFFC. Sri Sri will lead a Health & Happiness yoga camp in Beijing in the afternoon.

Yoga enthusiasts in China have reason to celebrate with the renowned exponent of the ancient Indian practise Sri Sri Ravi Shankar all set to inaugurate the first ashram of his 'Art of Living' here.

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar will embark on a two-day tour of China from Oct 24 to inaugurate the first Art of Living ashram in Beijing, the organisers said.

This is the first ever visit by an Indian spiritual leader to China, as it shed its Communist past with a series of economic and social reforms.

The spiritual guru, whose branches are active in 140 countries, promoting ecumenical values with emphasis on inner peace, would address a public "satsang" (spiritual gathering) at a resort near Beijing on Oct 24 followed by a Health and Happiness yoga camp the next day.

Art of Living to attempt breaking Guinness record in cooking

Ahmedabad: The Art of Living Foundation (ALF), founded by spiritual Guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Maharaj, would be attempting to break Guinness Book world record by cooking highest number of vegetarian food items by an organisation using community kitchens on November 2.

"We at the ALF believe just like prayer helps us connect spiritually with the Supreme being, food is also one of the mediums to connect to God," Rishi Nityapragya of the foundation told reporters.

"Devotees of Guruji (Sri Sri Ravi Shankar) would be attempting to prepare 5000 vegetarian food items, totalling around five tonnes, using over 250 community kitchens here on November 2," Nityapragya said.

11,000 people to sing Thevaram in Sri Lanka

Rhyme and rhythm to unite hearts and minds

Sri Lanka,  October 14: The land of the singing fish - Batticaloa in Sri Lanka is all set to usher in 2011 by hosting a historical event on Jan 22 where more than 11, 000 people from all walks of life will come together on one platform to sing in unison some of the key verses from the richest Tamil devotional poetry – The Thevaram.

Inspired by His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar`s mission of a One World Family (Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam ) this historical event aims to unite hearts and minds with rhyme and rhythm. The Thevaram ( In Tamil "Theva" means The Divine and "aram" denotes a beautiful garland ) represents the first seven volumes of the Tirumurai, the twelve-volume collection of Tamil Saivite devotional poetry.
All seven volumes are dedicated to the works of the three most prominent Tamil poets known as Nayanars - Sambanthar and Appar lived around the 7th century AD, while Sundarar lived in the 8th century AD. During the Pallava period these three poets travelled extensively delivering discourses and songs characterised by devotion to Lord Shiva.

 In the tenth Century AD, during the reign of Rajaraja Chola I, a collection of these songs was found abandoned in the Chidambaram temple, along with other religious literary works, and collated by Nambiyandar Nambi.  All the hymns in the Thevaram (called pathikam in Tamil) are believed to be in sets of ten. " The hymns are set to music denoted by Panns and are part of the canons of the Tamil music" shares Swami Sadyojatha, Director, Art of Living International Office.

Speaking on the relation between music and spirituality, Sri Sri says, "Spirituality and music together can uplift people, get them out of
depression and help them start a new life with enthusiasm.  For a stress-free life, you have to embrace both these facets (spirituality and music)."

Several musicians, singers, poets, dancers, dignitaries and religious leaders are also expected to attend the event. The event will also see participation from every section of society and several countries.

In 2009, the Art of Living had earlier hosted Antarnaad a grand symphony of 2750 Indian classical vocalists in Pune, its historic sitar concert titled Brahmnaad in New Delhi in Nov 2008, which brought together over 1000 sitar exponents, in aid of the Bihar Relief and rehabilitation and in 2006 1200 Mohiniattam dancers performed together on one stage in Kerala.

In a first, China extends invite to spiritual guru

BEIJING: Godless China has invited Art of Living (AOL) founder, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, for a religious leaders' meeting and a satsang near Beijing later this month. This would be the spiritual leader's first China visit. 

Sources said state-run China Overseas Friendship Association (COFA) is organising the event on October 24 and 25 and around 400 people from across the country are expected to attend the satsang. They said Beijing gave its go ahead for the event to promote bilateral ties with India and that the invitation is the first of its kind to any Indian religious figure. 

"We expect senior businessmen, show business celebrities, medical, educational experts and even psychiatrists to attend the event," said Tang Qiyu, who would host the event at his ashram-like resort for yoga and meditation on the outskirts of the capital. Sources said Tang's efforts made the invitation for the spiritual leader possible.

AOL unveils edu project for underprivileged children

Bangalore, Oct 4, (PTI):

With the aim of bringing value-based education to the children residing in the slum areas of Bangalore, the Art of Living on Monday officially launched its 'Vidya Shilpa' project under the umbrella of the Divine Karnataka project (DKP).

The project benefits more than 1,20,000 students in 206 schools across Karnataka. The project is being supported by the Karnataka Education department with the sole motive of upgrading the government schools in the state, an AoL release said.

Hanumantrayappa, Joint Director Projects, Education Department, Karnataka, was present at the launch along with Swami Vishnupad, Senior Art of Living faculty.

Over 200 youth leaders of the concerned area would go to every house to ensure that the children go to school and convince the parents for the same, said Nagraj Gangolli, Co-ordinator, DKP.
