Dear Friends,
The heaviest rainfall in a century has crippled India’s fourth most populous metropolis. The capital of Tamil Nadu, Chennai has slashed down on its knees as widespread flooding shut down the airport and stopped trains packed with passengers on submerged tracks. Life has come to a standstill as rains still continue and waters flood homes, offices and even hospitals causing colossal destruction.
The Indian Armed forces, National Disaster Relief forces, and Navy have deployed men and machines to begin rescue operations in the most affected areas of the city. The army has evacuated over 18,000 people from rooftops and outlying villages of Chennai while the fire department has rescued around 5,000 people till now.
The local Art of Living chapters has opened door of their centres to provide accommodation to the displaced. Volunteers in various parts of Chennai have started accommodating people in their homes till further help arrives. Food packets are being prepared and distributed in slums and other low lying areas. More than 200 volunteers of the Art of Living Foundation and IAHV are working on the ground:
We at the International Association of Human Values, are coming together with The Art of Living foundation to support relief operations at Chennai and neighbouring areas through material and medical assistance, providing shelter, distribution of food, water, masks, tarpaulins, tents, soaps, etc.
Extend your support with generous contributions to #HelpChennai!
